Holiday season is approaching: motorists should not forget to buy a motorway vignette before travelling
During the holiday months, motorways are often used by motorists who do not drive on them every day and therefore do not automatically think about the related mandatory charges. When planning, it is also necessary to consider whether the route to the destination includes tolled sections. If unsure, motorists can easily find a list of tolled motorway sections at: www.eznamka.sk/sk/spoplatnene-useky/siet.
If motorists know they will use one of these sections, NDS recommends purchasing a motorway vignette before setting off. “We do not recommend relying on buying a motorway vignette later on the journey. The motorway police can stop and fine a motorist at any time while driving,” said Peter Braška, Director of Tolling and IT at NDS.

NDS also recommends using the only official sales website, www.eznamka.sk, to purchase an electronic motorway vignette and avoiding intermediary websites. They often sell motorway vignettes with additional fees and offer no added value. On the contrary, they can complicate the complaints process and mean that motorists hand over data to operators that are often anonymous. NDS calculated that motorists overpaid by more than €4 million on purchases through unofficial websites in 2025.
